Eco-Friendly Recycled Plastic Sunglasses

Fab Fings is now a stockist of a range of very fab eco-friendly sunglasses made from recycled plastic!

Sourcing used or vintage sunglasses in good condition is not feasible and often there is no guarantee that vintage sunglasses offer any UV protection and, therefore, could actually cause more harm. But we wanted to add sunglasses to the Fab Fings shop, so we had to find a compromise.

These low cost sunglasses have been stocked at Fab Fings because we feel wearing sunglasses is important and should be accessible to all. They are made in China and buying from China is against the ethos of Fab Fings, however they were made using recycled materials, so an exception has been made. This range of sunglasses is unbranded and therefore very reasonably priced. The sunglasses do, however, provide full UV protection.

Here are some reasons why wearing sunglasses is important:

• Protect your eyes from UV rays. The sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays can damage your eyes, leading to conditions such as cataracts, macular degeneration, and pterygium. Sunglasses with UV protection help to block these harmful rays and protect your eyes from long-term damage. All the sunglasses at Fab Fings are 100% UV400 protected. This means our sunglasses have the same UV protection as expensive sunglasses brands. Most of the sunglasses are category 3: this means the lenses can be used in situations with strong sunlight. In our collection there are also some sunglasses with category 2 lenses. These lenses are the light coloured ones (plain yellow, blue, green, pink etc). Category 2 means there is protection in normal sunny conditions.
• Reduce glare. Glare from the sun can make it difficult to see, especially when driving or playing sports. Sunglasses with polarized lenses help to reduce glare, making it easier to see and improving your safety.
• Improve your vision. Sunglasses can also help to improve your vision by reducing squinting and eye fatigue. This is especially helpful if you have light sensitivity or if you spend a lot of time outdoors.
• Protect your eyes from dust, wind, and debris. Sunglasses can help to protect your eyes from dust, wind, and other debris that can get into your eyes and cause irritation. This is especially important if you live in a dusty or windy environment or will be spending time on a sandy beach.
• Look stylish. Sunglasses can also be a great way to add a touch of style and colour to your outfit.

The styles stocked at Fab Fings have been chosen to compliment the style of clothing and accessories at Fab Fings....vintage vibes and lots of colour!

The sunglasses have recycled frames and/or recycled lenses. The material used for the frames is recycled polyester, known as rPCTG. It is 100% recycled from food containers, bottles & caps. The lenses are made from 100% recycled Poly Methyl Methacrylate, known as rPMMA-L. The source are display stands, optical waveguides and optical lenses.

All factories the manufacturer works with are located in China and are BSCI approved. This means they apply to strong regulations regarding labour conditions including safety, working hours, child labour, salary etc.

All in all, these sunglasses are a good compromise in the need to protect your eyes and also stick to the Fab Fings ethos of reducing waste.
