Huge antique Victorian ornate silver plated tray. Attributed to Barker Ellis and dated to c.1890. There is a maker's mark just visible underneath but the underneath has lost most of its silver plate and, therefore, the mark is indecipherable. 69cm long (including the handles) and 42cm wide. The tray was plated onto copper on the tray and brass on the handles. The main part of the tray has lost all of its plating, therefore it is now just copper, which is actually quite attractive! Lots of beautiful and delicate engraving on the copper, plus beautiful repousse around the edge and on the handles, which are welded to the tray and not bolted. This is a heavy item, weighing 4.5kg. Good solid piece that lies flat on the table. Perfect for the 'Faded Glamour' interior trend. Please note: there are no silver marking that I can find.
